The camera connects with the company’s new Home Security System.
Already known for its wide variety of security cameras, Arlo is adding to its product lineup with two new options. We’ll run down the new additions.
Arlo Pro 5S: One Big Caveat for Smart Home Fans
Arlo’s Pro 5S is the newest all-weather security camera announced on the company’s site. The camera offers a number of new features.
First up, the Pro 5S offers dual-band Wi-Fi support. That means the camera will automatically connect to the strongest network, 5GHz or 2.4GHz Wi-Fi. The dual-band support will also help maximize picture quality and provide a longer Wi-Fi range.
Another nice improvement is better battery life. The wire-free camera can last up to 30 percent longer than the Pro 4. The camera also uses a new low-power mode.
The 2K camera also offers other features including HDR video, an integrated spotlight, color night vision, and two-way audio.
There is one substantial downside to note, especially for anyone who wants to use the camera as part of a larger smart home ecosystem. Currently, the camera is only compatible with Google Assistant and IFTTT. Arlo is promising Amazon Alexa support “soon.”
But the camera apparently doesn’t support Apple HomeKit or the new and important Matter smart home protocol. The lack of HomeKit support is confusing as the previous Pro 4 and many other Arlo cameras support Apple’s protocol.
Available in either black or white, you can pre-order the Arlo Pro 5S starting today from Arlo and other retailers with shipment arriving in later November 2022. A one-camera kit is $249.99 while a three-camera kit is $649.99.
Pairs With the Home Security System
The Arlo Pro 5S is also able to pair with the new Home Security System from the company that was first announced back at CES 2022.
Announced via the company’s site, the system feature all-in-one sensors. Instead of needing sensors for specific tasks, like detecting a water leak, Arlo’s multi-sensor can detect a number of issues like a door opening, freezing temperatures, smoke/CO sirens, and more.
The included Keypad Sensor Hub features a multi-sensor and quick access to emergency responders.
The Starter Bundle is $199.99 and includes a Keypad Sensor Hub, two all-in-one sensors, a widow decal, and a 30-day free trial to the Professional Monitoring Service which is $14.99 per month.
A Step Up Bundle is $299.99 and offers the Keypad Sensor Hub, five sensors, two window decals, one yard sign, and the same 30-day free trial to the service.
Both kits can be pre-ordered today with shipment arriving later in November 2022.
Arlo Continues to Create a Large Security Ecosystem
Both the Home Security System and Arlo Pro 5S continue to make Arlo a great option for anyone looking to increase their home security. But the lack of HomeKit and Matter support is disappointing and might limit some potential buyers.
